What we believe

We believe that the best way to understand what a group of people really believe is not through lists or statements of faith, but through participating in the community. The reality is, that lots of people can say they believe the “right” things but never live those beliefs out. So, while the list may be correct, the practice is not. If you are interested in knowing what Corinth believes or stands for, we encourage you to come and take part of the community and see for yourself what we believe and stand for.

If you just want a list, though, here you go.

The Scriptures

We believe that the Old and New Testaments are the inspired words of God, handed down by the Holy Spirit to the original writers. We believe that they are the basis for life and reveal what is necessary to know God and to fully understand who we are meant to be. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:20, 21; Matthew 5:18; John 16:12, 13; Hebrews 4:12)

God

We believe that God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. We believe that He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Corinthians 8:6; John 1:1; Acts 5:3-4)

Jesus

We believe that Jesus is God and that he came to earth, lived a perfect and sinless life, was crucified on a cross, and rose from the grave three days later, and later ascended to heaven where he now sits at the right hand of the Father. We believe that Jesus died on the cross to close the gap between man and his Creator and to pay the penalty for our sins. We believe that Jesus is coming back to judge the living and the dead. (1 Corinthians 15: 1-8; John 3:16, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son. We believe that the Holy Spirit makes people aware of their sin and their need for Jesus. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells and gives gifts to the believer to be used to help others. (John 16:8–11; 2 Corinthians 3:6; 1 Corinthians 12:12–14; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 5:18)

Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God and bears His likeness. We believe that man is rebellious and chooses sin over God. Because of that he is separated from his Creator. There is nothing that man can do on his own to close that separation. (Genesis 1:26, 27; Romans 3:22, 23; 5:12; 6:23; Ephesians 2:1–3)

Salvation

We believe that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and that the wages of sin is death. We also believe that forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to all who trust Christ as Savior and Lord. We believe that those wishing to accept Christ should repent of sin, confess their faith, and be baptized into Him. (Romans 1:16; 5:8; 6:3-4; 10:9; Acts 2:38; John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9)

The Church

We believe that the church is the body of Christ on earth, made up of people who are fueled by the Holy Spirit and whose goal is to seek and save the lost. We believe that the church is people, not a building. (Ephesians 1:22, 23; 5:25–27; 1 Corinthians 12:12–14; 2 Corinthians 11:2)
